How different perspectives change the way landscape photography is perceived?
This is the way different photos and styles can be seen in different ways. This is specific to landscape photography as people can look at a picture and get a different story. This is the judgement that goes through our minds when we see a picture. The styles will be expressed through different perspective through high and low angles and the perspective or the illusion we see when looking at a staggered photography. Perspective is a word that can defined in many different ways and is the idea how the same pictures can be seen many different ways.
Perspective photography has influenced a lot of my photography work and is in most of my work. This is because different perspectives make people think and feel different things about the photos taken. This is shown by the different angles photos are captures in. If a photograph is taken from a low angle this makes the subject look bigger. This could be done to suggest that the person taken the picture is small compared to the whole world. If the picture is taken from a high angel it could make big things such as cities and big buildings look small. The message for this is that size is relative and can be captured in different ways. Perspective doesn't have to be only expressed by angles. It can be expressed depth of field or aperture. This is because depth of field influences how much you see in the photo. This would suggest that the photographer only allows you to see what they want you to see. Aperture can take certain things out of focus, to increase importance in other things.
Examples of photographers that have influenced my work
Peter Stewart
Peter Stewart is an Australian photographer who takes picture of buildings and cityscapes. He takes most of his pictures in Hong Kong because he likes taking pictures of areas that are close and make people feel claustrophobic. He has a passion for documentary photographs. His pictures influenced my perspective page of my course. This is because he used low angles to make buildings look taller and make the edges look like they trapped people. He also uses the space above his photos to make shapes. I like the creativity and the unique pictures creates. Here are my favourite pictures below;
This pictures are all taken from a low angle and all have the same meaning, however the different in colours and styles of the of the pictures look completely different. This is because the style of the buildings look completely different to each other. The picture on the right makes the apartment building in China look much more HD and taller this makes the buildings height over exaggerated. The shape at the top is different and the small circle makes the whole building look trapped and claustrophobic. The picture in the middle looks like and illusion, this is because of blue lights on the top and the different layers on the top. This makes some of the layers stand out more. The side of the pictures make the building look trapped and how it's shifting away. The picture on the left shows a low angle shot makes the sky look so far away makes the whole picture look like an alternative realty. The effect this has on photography is the unknown that we as viewers and fans do not know what the picture is meant to represent.
Forced Perspective Photography
This is the technique that makes object look bigger,smaller, further or closer than it is. This is the use of perspective to trick people in to believing this illusion. This type of photography allows the mind to think and discuss whether some of these are possible. Therefore allows people to express there imagination. This allows peoples first thought to be wrong about objects and allows people to think abut different meanings and objectives each photo could have.
Style Example
This is different from my pictures because of the way it is done. This is a future aspiration of my photography work. I like this as exploits the way a subject or a person is seen and the size it is seen. This illusion is able to influence the way the people view the picture. My favourite picture of the one above is the picture on the left this is because of the lighting and the sunset in the background which makes the mood of the picture completely different. Also the hot colours and the the place looks hot and humid. So the need for water or a drink is expressed by the huge bottle and the small person drinking water out of it. This could be telling us a message that people take the small things for granted. Therefore suggests the size of the bottle could represent the importance. The other pictures have less effect for this as they are much more simple but represent the influence of size and how the importance can been seen differently.
Influence over my work
This hasn't had a big effect on my work but the taking pictures from different angles in my perspective photography unit but this is style I am interested in as the content the resizing of the picture and making the other part of the picture therefore influencing perspective of the whole picture. The middle picture above is hard as the people in the persons hand are in different positions leading to the last person falling over the big person blowing, the whole picture is put together.
This links to some of my units but the general idea of perspective and the way things are perceived links to all my units as they are seen from my perspective. This is shown by the spiral and staggered photography. This is because perspective is broken down into the way I saw the style break down similar but different to the artist work and for the spiral or rotation photography I saw work in much more subtle and archaic way.
